William Henry Allen

February 23, 1936 ~ January 27, 2022 (age 85)


William (“Bill”) Henry Allen, 85, of Reading and formerly of Laureldale, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2022 at ManorCare in Laureldale. He was the husband of the late Lorraine Mary (Schneidenwind) Allen. Born February 23, 1936 in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Winslow E. and Anna (Disney) Allen.

Bill Allen graduated from Lebanon High School in 1954 and studied at the art school affiliated with the Philadelphia Museum of Art. He was employed as a production manager by Ted Black Advertising in Reading for most of his career. 

Bill had many hobbies and interests. He was passionate about trains, planes, and cars. He was a member of the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum and model railroader club, as well as an amateur photographer. He loved the Duryea Hillclimb auto race, the Reading Air Show, restoring old MGs, discussing movies, playing a good game of chess, and “chasing trains” with his family. Bill was also a WWII buff, an avid reader, and a longtime fan of Broadway shows.

Bill Allen is survived by his children Jeffrey M. Allen of Lancaster; Lisa Allen Thakur, wife of Manavendra Thakur of Washington DC; and Christine E. Allen of New York City. Also surviving is his sister Elizabeth, wife of James Allwein of Palmyra; sister-in-law Mary Ann Schneidenwind, also of Palmyra, and brother-in-law David Schneidenwind of Reading. 

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 5, at 10:00 am at the Stitzel Family Funeral Home, 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale, PA 19605. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum, 11 Museum Drive, Reading, PA 19605, in memory of Bill Allen.
