Richard Earl Gerhart, 91, of Reading, passed away peacefully January 30, 2021 in Lancaster General Hospital of Covid-19.
He was the husband of Virginia (Hinnershitz) Gerhart, his devoted wife, and they were married for 63 years.
Born in Reading, PA on June 28, 1929, he was the son of Harold and Lucy (Upzak) Gerhart.
He was a graduate of Muhlenberg High School.
Richard was a general foreman for Asplundh for many years. He was a devoted employee and truly loved working with horticulture.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Kutztown. He loved the outdoors, especially planting trees and "puttering" in his yard. He held a special place in his heart for all animals, especially German Shepherds and birds, and he raised homing pigeons for many years.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his daughter; Karen, wife of Kerry Madeira of Fleetwood, grandchildren: Chris Madeira of Wyomissing and Carissa Madeira Noel, wife of Drew of Lancaster; great grandsons; Emmett Noel
and Sullivan Noel.
He was preceded in death by his siblings: Harry Gerhart, Betty Gerhart and Paul Gerhart.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
Burial will be in Zion Spies Cemetery.
