Due to unfortunate circumstances, services for Donald Sands have been postponed. The family plans to reschedule a service sometime in the future and encourages friends to privately honor the life of their uncle.
Donald R. “Doc” Sands, 74, of Reading, passed away Saturday, September 19, 2020 in the Penn
State Health St. Joseph Medical Center with his loving family by his side.
Born May 30, 1946 in Reading, he was the son of the late John and Frances (Cole) Sands.
Donald worked for over 30 years in the water quenching department in heavy truck at Dana,
retiring in 1997. After retirement, Donald was employed as a bank courier.
Donald had a lifelong passion for NASCAR and auto racing and spent much of his life traveling
to different speedways and fair grounds with friends. Donald was a longtime writer for Area
Auto Racing News as well as a racing photographer for the Associated Press. He was a member
of the Jackson Democratic and Social Club. He was also a long time Philadelphia Eagles and
Surviving are his nephew and three nieces: Josh R Ludwig and his wife Melissa of Gilbertsville;
Jennifer J. and husband Jeffrey Finn of Virginia, Jillian L. and husband Chad Grate of Bernville
and Jocelyn S. and husband Scott Colleran of Florida.
Also surviving are his great nephews Mason, Noah, and Caleb and great niece, Kiernan.
Donald was predeceased by his sister, Lisa A. (Sands) Ludwig.
