Bernard Thompson, 88, of Laureldale, died January 29, 2018 at ManorCare Health Services, Muhlenberg Township.
He was the husband of Grace Ruth (Helder) Thompson, to whom he was married to for over 65 years.
Born October 7, 1929 in Reading, he was a son of the late Boyd L. and Eva J. (Lineaweaver) Thompson.
Bernie was a 1949 graduate of Reading High School.
He was employed as a craftsman with Dana Corporation for over 33 years, retiring in 1983.
Bernie served 4 years in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, and was very proud of his service.
Surviving are his two children: Gary A., husband of Barbara M. Thompson of Murrells Inlet, SC and Carol L. (Thompson) Jenckes Rachlin, wife of Aaron “Mike” Rachlin of Manteno, IL.
Bernie was predeceased by his four siblings: Leon Thompson, Walter B. Thompson, Richard H. Thompson and Arlene J. Hughes.
Other survivors include his four grandchildren: Kimberly A. Jenckes, Heather M. Jenkins, Michele L. Zdunowski and Kevin A. Thompson and five great grandchildren: Olivia G., Bennett C., Addison J. Raelynne G. and Camden Q.
Services will be held Thursday at 12 noon at Stitzel Family Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale. A viewing will be held from 11-12 p.m. Entombment will be private in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Exeter Township, at the convenience of the family.
